Beamish Living Museum of the North
Our optional trip is by coach from Durham railway station and includes admission to The Living Museum of the North.
Beamish is continually being developed and it has won many awards for its old buildings, actors playing Victorian roles, its trams, railway and much more.
The working Museum shows everyday life in the North East at the height of industrialisation in the early part of the last century.
The town reflects the Victorian buildings including the impressive Co-operative shop from nearby Annfield Plain.
A railway station of North Eastern design has been constructed on the edge of the town and a colliery village built using local materials.
Agricultural interest is covered by two working farms. There are indeed many other heritage items, to many to mention here.
The transport enthusiast is well catered for with a working electric tramway, trolleybuses, omnibuses and other vintage road vehicles.
